Job Description
Public Safety Officer Public Safety Officers on Hendrix College campus have a significant impact on the campus community. This position's duty is to ensure the safety of persons and property on the Hendrix campus, and to assist in the handling of various emergency situations.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: - Patrol campus buildings and grounds to prevent or deal with any incidents of theft, vandalism, fire or fire hazards, disorderly conduct, violation of college traffic or other regulations, etc.
- Ensure buildings are locked and unlocked as appropriate.
- Inspect life safety equipment, which includes checking that locks, lighting, fire extinguishers and alarms are in working order.
- Report any public safety incidents and unusual or hazardous conditions on campus to appropriate officials (i.e., inoperative alarms, fire extinguishers, broken windows, etc.).
- Investigate any complaints made by faculty, staff, or students on campus.
- Investigate traffic accidents on campus.
- Assist local fire and rescue personnel as needed.
- Provide public safety services such as parking and traffic direction, crowd control, and the like, for special events.
- Issue traffic/parking violation citations. Assist area police with investigations on campus.
- Give visitors directions and general Hendrix College information.
- Prepare all required paperwork on public safety activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Public Safety.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: High school education plus one to two years of security or law enforcement training or experience preferred, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
Required Skills: Knowledge of first aid techniques; CPR certification very desirable; familiarity with relevant laws and regulations; basic knowledge of fire prevention; valid driver's license; ability to deal effectively with a wide range of individuals, in some instances under stressful, dangerous and/or emergency conditions; ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently; demonstrated integrity; must have the physical ability to perform all job duties.
