Position Overview:
The General Manager of Warehouse & Transportation Operations will be responsible for the overall management and coordination of warehouse activities and transportation logistics. This role requires a strategic leader with a strong background in warehouse management, logistics, and transportation within the food manufacturing industry. The ideal candidate will be adept at optimizing operations, managing teams, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operations Management: Oversee the daily operations of the warehouse and transportation departments, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Team Leadership: Lead, manage, and develop a high-performing team, including warehouse staff, transportation drivers, and logistics coordinators. Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Logistics Optimization: Develop and implement strategies to optimize warehouse storage, inventory management, and transportation routes, reducing costs and improving delivery times.
- Inventory Control: Ensure accurate and timely inventory management, including receiving, storage, and distribution of products. Implement best practices to minimize shrinkage and ensure product quality.
- Transportation Management: Oversee the scheduling, routing, and tracking of transportation operations, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of goods to customers and distribution centers.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure all warehouse and transportation activities comply with health and safety regulations, food safety standards, and company policies. Promote a culture of safety and enforce compliance through training and audits.
- Budget Management: Develop and manage the budget for warehouse and transportation operations, ensuring cost control and maximizing resource utilization.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve service levels.
- Supplier and Vendor Relations: Manage relationships with third-party logistics providers, transportation vendors, and equipment suppliers to ensure reliable and cost-effective services.
- Performance Monitoring: Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track operational efficiency, on-time delivery, and cost management. Provide regular reports to senior management on operational performance.
- Customer Focus: Collaborate with sales and customer service teams to ensure that customer requirements are met and exceeded, maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Crisis Management: Develop and implement contingency plans to address potential disruptions in the supply chain, ensuring business continuity and minimizing impact on operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in warehouse management, logistics, or transportation, preferably within the food manufacturing industry.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and develop teams in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Strong understanding of supply chain principles, including inventory management, transportation logistics, and warehouse operations.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and compliance requirements, including HACCP, OSHA, and DOT regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
- Proficiency in warehouse management systems (WMS), transportation management systems (TMS), and other relevant software.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously, with a strong attention to detail.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, as needed.
