Entry Level Data Analyst

SUMMARY:

The Concourse Group is looking for an entry level data analyst with the ability to work in a small team environment to solve problems for our clients. This position is a hybrid position, and candidates must live locally as it may require infrequent visits to client locations throughout the National Capital Region.

Our entry level data analyst will have strong analytic and organizational skills—such as data processing, database management, data visualization, and preferably some exposure to web development. Successful candidates will have had previous applied experience in school, internships or a work environment, and strong attention to detail and the ability to grow and learn new systems. The ideal candidate will be comfortable in fast-paced environments and managing an independent workflow while looking forward to future tasks.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to transform data into visual and written summaries
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Exposure to R, Python, or Power BI
  • Exposure to database management systems
  • Independent worker that can manage multiple tasks while forward-looking at future tasks under the direction of a team lead
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in both writing and orally
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Distill complex information from multiple sources into guidance documents, analytical assessments, reports, memoranda, and presentations tailored for senior public sector clients and whole community partners
  • Develop concise, clear, and easily consumable written deliverables based on research and data
  • Ability to prioritize workflow to meet all future deadlines

 

REQUIRED TASKS

  • Provide expertise in developing online products and tools for governmental staff and public audiences.
  • Evaluate and develop process methods for streamlining complex tracking systems.
  • Develop methods to extract, clean, and organize data from a variety of sources, including spreadsheets, databases, APIs, or web services.
  • Provide quality assurance and guidance on the development of data analysis documentation and reports including methodologies.
  • Manage projects, monitor progress against milestones and budgets, coordinate client requests and expectations, and ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Supervise the development of reports, case studies, presentations, and other documents for technical and non-technical audiences.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in a data related computer science discipline, mathematics or economics (Other majors are acceptable with relevant experience).
  2. Strong Excel skills.
  3. Data processing skills using one or more data processing system.
  4. Skills in developing data visualization (Power BI preferred).
  5. Ability to earn a favorable Public Trust clearance.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  1. Familiarity with database architecture and automation processes.
  2. Experience using database platforms and one or more database platforms (e.g., Oracle or SQL Server); and familiarity with web application development (e.g., JavaScript, Drupal) are also desired.
  3. Preference is given to those with direct federal experience including internships.
