Reporting to the Director of Digital Media Services, the Digital Media Specialist is responsible for creating and producing video content to support the efforts of the University Marketing and Communications Division at Towson University. The ideal candidate will have a thorough knowledge of the video production life cycle and a solid understanding of various camera and lighting techniques, as well as audio capture and be able to troubleshoot when necessary whether on location or in the studio. While working with various project stakeholders, and utilizing both creative expertise and strong technical skills, the Digital Media Specialist assists in identifying and developing compelling and informational story topics that align with Towson University’s marketing, recruiting, and editorial initiatives, showcasing the ability to take a project from concept to creation. 

Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Video Production: Create and produce video content for the UMC for use on both traditional (e.g. YouTube, Broadcast) and social media (e.g. Instagram, Facebook, etc.) platforms. Capture and document various university events, initiatives, and programs within the TU community. Responsible for the entire video production life cycle for any given project including include, filming, editing, audio capture and mixing, and preparing files for final output and distribution.
  2. Planning: Collaborate with various UMC staff and project stakeholders to identify, develop, and produce new projects that help to further the impact of the UMC division, including (but not limited to): script/storyboard/shot list development, location scouting
  3. Video equipment and studio: The Digital Media Specialist assists in the maintenance of all existing video production equipment and research/recommends equipment that will continue to increase the overall capability of the Digital Media Services department.
  4. Signage Content Production: Create digital content for UMC for use on, but not limited to, on-campus digital signage, outdoor LED road signs and arena video boards. Schedule graphics and maintain accompanying software
  5. Online video: Also assists in maintaining the TU YouTube channel and other digital platforms. Assures that all online videos are properly captioned.
  6. Streaming Video Management: Work with Assistant Director, Director and Office of Technology Services to setup live streaming of major university events (commencement, President's Address, etc.). Test, maintain and update software and equipment, as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of related work experience.
  • Please submit a demo reel along with 2–3 other samples of work in order to be considered.
  • Pre-production: Ability to schedule kick-off meetings, assist in the development of scripts, shot lists, and storyboards.
  • Production: Thorough knowledge of cameras, lenses, lighting, and audio equipment and the setup for various shoots.
  • Post-Production: Thorough knowledge of editing, audio mixing, and file output for both traditional and social media platforms.

Specialized Software Used

  • Adobe Creative Cloud applications: Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Audition.

Salary and Benefits

Salary starting at $60,000, salary commensurate on experience, and full University benefits that include 22 days of annual leave, up to 15 holidays, personal and sick days; excellent health, life, and retirement plans; and tuition remission.
