Joining the Secret Service as a Special Agent offers the opportunity to perform critical protective and investigative assignments. The position starts at a base salary of $64,788.00 (GL-07, step 1) with promotion potential up to $156,755.00 (GS-13, step 10). Minimum qualifications for GL-07 include: A bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement (S.A.A.) based on class standing, GPA of 3.0 or higher, or honor society membership, with detailed criteria provided. At least one full year of graduate education (18 semester hours), or One year of specialized experience in investigative, protective, or law enforcement techniques, demonstrating initiative, attention to detail, analytical skills, and leadership abilities. Minimum qualifications for GL-09 include: A master's degree or two years of higher graduate education, or One year of specialized experience at the GL-7 level, or A combination of graduate education and experience. Minimum qualifications for GS-11 include: A Ph.D., or three years of higher graduate education, or LL.M., or One year of specialized experience at the GL-9 level, or A mix of experience and graduate education. Experience can include paid, unpaid, or volunteer work, which helps develop relevant skills and competencies. Qualified applicants are considered at the highest grade level they qualify for. Performance appraisals and awards may be considered during evaluation. Applicants must pass Phase 1 assessments (NCIC, SAEE, APAT, interview) and Phase 2 evaluations (credit check, security interview, polygraph, drug screening, medical exam, background investigation) to be considered for employment. Applicants are required to complete the APAT, a physical fitness test measuring strength, endurance, and agility, designed to assess readiness for vigorous training. Ideal candidates for the CAT Program should have: Military combat arms experience, Service in special operations units, Direct combat experience, Experience in tactical law enforcement teams, Participation in collegiate or professional sports, Specialized training in military or law enforcement tactics.
