JOB SUMMARY

Position is responsible for collaborating with campus athletic teams, and their members, related to all facets of eligibility, compliance, and student success for OUAZ's 31 varsity athletics programs; and is responsible for ensuring the OUAZ Athletics Department adheres to NAIA and NCCAA eligibility and compliance rules. In addition, the Assistant AD for Compliance will oversee the SAAC, National and Conference Awards, game contracts in coordination with the Assistant AD for Operations and Event Management as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (provide list of items which are essential to effective outcomes in this role):
  • Manages and executes the eligibility certification process for all participating student-athletes including rules education and support for all members of the athletics department, FAR and Registrar.
  • Enforces all rules within the NAIA, NCCAA, SAC and GSAC, working closely with all coaches and student-athletes in making sure the department is fully compliant with these rules.
  • Works collaboratively with faculty and department advisors to ensure student-athletes understand degree requirements for the major as well as general education requirements and progress toward degree requirements. Collaborates with staff from Admissions, Retention, and Registrar departments to support new and continuing students.
  • Advises Director of Athletics on all student-athlete experience issues.
  • Develop a system and process for tracking student-athlete grades, overseeing mid-semester grade reports, create intervention plans and processes to assist the student-athlete, and communicate with the right individuals as a result of information found that requires mitigating procedures toward assisting the student athlete.
  • Compile reports and communicate with coaches involving students of concern; create plans to help student stay eligible and progress toward successful completion of their degree.
  • Proactively build and maintain positive and collaborative working relationships between colleagues across the campus to enhance the Athletics Department brand and to create a close working relationship between those departments.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant AD for Athletics Communications to nominate individuals and teams for various awards, including, but not limited to; NAIA Scholar Athlete, GSAC Scholar-Athlete, SAC Scholar-Athlete, NAIA Scholar-Team, NAIA Team of Character, NAIA Individual Character, Cliff Hamlow Award as well as all corresponding NCCAA awards.
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends in the area of student-athlete development and compliance related matters.
  • Assure a working knowledge of admissions and financial aid policies and awards; provide support to both admissions and athletics staff to help bridge concerns.
  • Identify department risks/concerns; discuss risk reduction options with immediate Supervisor.
  • Development and oversight of Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
  • Supervise event management as directed by the Director of Athletics.
  • Coordinate with the Assistant AD for Operations regarding game contracts
  • Potential sport oversight as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION: (education based on essential job duties and requirements consistent with business necessity):
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field of study, master's degree preferred.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: ( experience based on requirements in role and are consistent with business necessity)
Prior experience working within an athletic department and with compliance related duties essential.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse client group. Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted professional behavior, etiquette and standards of protocol that are appropriate within a collegiate athletic setting.
  • Commitment to directing the Compliance component of the Athletics mission and willingness to collaborate with other staff members to effectively handle department-wide initiatives that cross over intra-departmental boundaries (special events, campus projects, NAIA Championships, etc.).
