Planet Healthcare is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg / Telemetry for a travel nursing job in Bangor, Maine.

Job Description & Requirements

• Shift: 12 hours, nights

• General Information:
  • Beds: 44 private and semi-private rooms
  • Experience?
    • RN: 1 year minimum, would prefer more
  • First-time traveler? Yes
• Patient Types:
  • Any medical diagnosis except primary Cardiac could be seen on this unit.
  • Unit will monitor patients on Telemetry (Med-Tele)
  • Common diagnoses include but are not limited to: Stroke, COPD, Respiratory issues and illnesses – Flu/PNA/COVID, GI Bleed, Renal Failure (AKI/CKD), Electrolyte imbalance, altered mental status, weakness, non-operable fractures
  • Non-surgical unit
• Patient Ratios:
  • RN: Days 1:4-5; Nights 1:5-6
    • May vary based on patient acuity, tech support, insulin drips within assignment, etc.
• Required Certifications:
  • RN:
    • BLS
    • NIHSS (preferred)
    • EKG interpretation/ACLS (preferred)
• Skills required:
  • RN:
    • Previous charge experience highly preferred, please include if the traveler has charge experience in offer details and is willing to act as charge
    • Cardiac drips (Cardizem, Amiodarone), Insulin drips, Heparin drips - training available from charge and educator – does not require manager approval to offer but will be noted in the offer email for CRT if traveler has not done
    • Reading/Interpreting Rhythm strips – please decline if they are not comfortable with this
    • Trach care, Chest tube management, General Medical Surgical skills (wound care, IVABX, Drain/tube management, IV starts, central line management, etc.)
• Support on the Unit:
  • CNA
  • Charge nurse - will typically not have a patient assignment
  • Phlebotomy? For peripheral blood draws only
  • House Supervisor, 24/7
  • RT, 24/7 in house
  • Hospitalist, 24/7
  • PT/OT/ST – dayshift only
  • Unit Resource RN (as staffing allows) – 0700-1900
• Charting System/Equipment:
  • Cerner – not required
  • Alaris
  • Pyxis
• Floating:
  • Will float as often as needed to any area with Med/Tele patients (within or below scope)
• Orientation:
  • 2 Days Hospital orientation
  • 1 shift on the unit
• Scheduling:
  • Weekend rotation: every other
  • Call required: none
  • Holiday Expectations: no Holiday RTO is accepted at this time
  • RTO: Manager approval
• Other notes:
  • Scrub Color:
    • RN: Any color, must be professional
  • No crocs with holes, no artificial nails, no personal cell phone usage unless on break
  • Parking: Free in designated areas
