Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Teacher of the Visually Impaired to provide virtual instruction and support to K-12 students across Wisconsin. This full-time, remote contract role is perfect for an educator passionate about creating positive, individualized learning experiences for students with visual impairments, all from the convenience of a home-based setup.

Work Schedule: Flexible within school hours, includes both direct instruction and indirect support

Qualifications
Education: Master's Degree in Visual Impairment, Special Education, or a closely related field
Certification: Valid Wisconsin Teaching License with Visual Impairment - Special Education (1952) endorsement
Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a similar role working with visually impaired students in school settings
Technical Skills: Skilled in online instruction tools (e.g., Zoom), with a strong understanding of braille, assistive technology, and other accessible learning tools
Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional communication, organizational, and time management skills, with a collaborative and proactive approach to working in a virtual team
Cultural Awareness: Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds

Key Responsibilities
Instructional Planning: Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that address each student's unique needs, strengths, and learning goals
Assessment & Support: Conduct functional vision and learning media assessments, and provide instruction in braille, assistive technology, and other adaptive skills

Collaboration: Work closely with general educators, orientation and mobility specialists, and other team members to enhance each student's learning experience

Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate records of student progress, interventions, and IEP goal updates, ensuring adherence to all Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) guidelines for special education

Family Engagement: Act as a resource for families, offering guidance and support for learning at home and fostering an inclusive learning environment

Professional Development: Stay current on advancements in visual impairment education through ongoing professional development and compliance with Wisconsin DPI standards
