Job Description: Our Patrollers are on-snow experts with a passion for on-mountain risk management while caring for our guests and employees.
Now is a great time to join Powder Mountain & Powder Haven, with new terrain opening and a change to be part of re-imagining what a ski resort can be!
This application is specific to non-returning, new candidates for the 24/25 Winter Season. This is a "general" application for all ski patrol levels; 1, 2, and 3. Hired candidates will be assigned their level designation during our on-boarding, this designation is based on proven qualifications.
Ski Patrol Level 1,2,3 Core Responsibilities: - Provides emergency first aid response, evacuation and transportation to sick and injured guests and employees.
- Follows all Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) established protocols, local protocols and adheres to Powder Mountain reports and documentation.
- Arranges for advanced medical support as needed for guests.
- Responsible for opening and closing mountain terrain, and maintaining bamboo lines.
- Responsible for marking on-mountain hazards.
- Responsible for guest safety in Powder Mountain Powder Country and Ski & Skin Terrain.
- Maintain first aid and toboggan equipment.
- Oversees the opening and closing of terrain according to weather and conditions.
- Perform chairlift evacuation, low angle rescue, rope rescue.
- Ability to use explosive and avalanche mitigation techniques.
- Perform mountain sweeps and lost guest searches.
- Assists guest with equipment problems (dropped equipment, broken equipment, etc.) and provides courtesy transport.
- Completes all mountain and patrol paperwork as necessary (trail log, run reports, etc.)
- Performs incident investigation when necessary.
- Assists Groomers with mountain maintenance.
- Helps train newer patrol members and candidates.
- Maintain the proper height of lift tower, light pole and signpost, padding.
- Ability to quickly become familiar and oriented to facilities and terrain.
- Assist with mountain maintenance, i.e., lift lines ropes, signage, snow clearing.
Qualifications Requirements: - Basic to expert knowledge of Avalanche terrain and hazard awareness.
- Basic to expert knowledge of mountain travel and rescue awareness.
- Basic to expert conception of how to identify, correct, mitigate and/or mark hazards.
- Proficiency in, and proof of current, valid medical credential of:
- National Ski Patrol Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC)
- Utah EMT License, National Registry EMT certification or above.
- Professional level CPR/AED/WFR certification.
- Desire to work outside in extreme temperatures, sun and wind exposure, inclement weather (rain, snow, ice) and at an altitude of 9,000 ft.
- Compliance to follow instructions of Lead, Manager or Supervisor.
- Ability to ski all Powder Mountain terrain, in any condition, with pack on.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
- Ability to use Patrol Software and two-way radio communication.
- Willingness to assist other departments when required.
- Commitment to assigned work schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Positive, outgoing attitude, team oriented, friendly.
- Committed to Powder Mountains appearance guidelines, tasteful tattoos and limited facial piercings are acceptable.
- Desire to progress one's skill set and attend continuing Patrol education.
