Senior Title Officer

In-House General Counsel in Monroe, NY, provides expert legal guidance for real estate transactions, focusing on title insurance, underwriting, and compliance. This hybrid, part-time role involves advising staff, managing title clearance, addressing survey issues, preparing proformas and endorsements, ensuring FinCEN compliance, and handling title-related billing. The counsel collaborates with the underwriting team to assess risks, develop solutions for complex deals, and ensure adherence to New York real estate regulations. Additionally, they assist with funding transactions and preparing Settlement Statements to facilitate smooth closings.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure properties have clear titles, free from liens or disputes.
• Resolve property boundary or survey disputes.
• Prepare or review title insurance policy documents.
• Adhere to FinCEN regulations to prevent fraud or money laundering.
• Oversee billing for title services.
• Facilitate legally sound real estate closings.
• Assess risks in title insurance transactions with the underwriting team.
• Develop creative solutions to insure complex deals with legal complications.
• Analyze risks versus benefits for transaction insurance decisions.
• Stay updated on state-specific (especially New York) real estate regulations.
• Support funding and prepare Settlement Statements for closings.

Qualifications:

• Experience in real estate law and title insurance.
• Strong knowledge of Title insurance and understanding how to issue and manage title insurance policies.
• Underwriting and evaluating risks in real estate transactions.
• Experience in closing processes and managing the legal and financial steps to finalize real estate deals.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills to handle complex legal issues and work with various teams.
