This position is located in Social Work Service, Boise VA Medical Center, Boise, ID. This position functions as a Senior Social Worker on the Mental Health Intensive Case Management team.

Basic Requirements :

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.


• Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work.


• Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level.


• English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f).

May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).

GS-12 Senior Social Worker Grade Determinations

• Experience/Education: The candidate must have at least two years of experience post-advanced practice clinical licensure, with one year at the GS-11 level. Senior social workers demonstrate advanced practice skills and judgment, and may have certification or additional post-master's training from recognized organizations or universities, including supervised professional experience in a specialty.


• Licensure/Certification: Must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level by a state, capable of providing supervision for licensure, unless grandfathered.


• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must demonstrate skills in specialized interventions, differential diagnosis, outcome evaluation, consultation, and policy development as detailed in the original description.

Preferred Experience: Experience in community case management with individuals with serious chronic mental illness, specifically psychotic disorders.

Physical Requirements: Travel for community-based outreach, and activities involving sitting, walking, standing, bending, and carrying items such as books, papers, and files. Travel into the community for interviews with veterans, families, landlords, or PHA representatives may be required.
