College/Department Information

The Department of Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine was founded in 1993 as the Institute of Molecular Medicine and Genetics. We seek to attract outstanding faculty and bright students by creating a welcoming, collegial, and collaborative environment to foster success and creativity. Our faculty's research focuses on a variety of fundamental areas, ranging from neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders, brain injury, learning and memory, neuroprotection, development, inflammation, and regenerative medicine, using a broad repertoire of experimental approaches. Our department is also the home to the Transgenic and Genome Editing Core, which is supported by the Georgia Research Alliance.

 

The Medical College of Georgia is the state's only public medical school. Participate in research data collection and documentation within relevant guidelines and protocols; develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures; publish results in scientific journals. Perform a variety of complex chemical, biological, cytologic, microscopic, histologic, surgical, statistical/computational and dissection procedures. Will perform experiments using acute and chronic stress models, transgenic mouse models and high-fat diet model, performing behavioral tests evaluating depression, anxiety, PTSD, learning and memory. Will help to maintain mouse breeding colonies. Will perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

 

 

• Participate in research data collection and documentation within relevant guidelines and protocols; develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures; publish results in scientific journals.

   

• Perform a variety of complex chemical, biological, cytologic, microscopic, histologic, surgical, statistical/computational and dissection procedures.

   

• Perform experiments using acute and chronic stress models, transgenic mouse models and high-fat diet models, performing behavioral tests evaluating depression, anxiety, PTSD, learning and memory.

   

• Assist with maintaining mouse breeding colonies.

   

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.

Preferred Qualifications

Lab experience is preferred.
