Parkview Regional Medical Center (PRMC) is accepting applications for a psychiatry clinical pharmacy specialist.

Position Details: The psychiatry clinical pharmacy specialist will provide pharmaceutical care services to inpatients with psychiatric consult services at Parkview Regional Medical Center (PRMC). This position is aimed at enhancing the multidisciplinary approach to care and optimizing medication therapy for adult and youth patients with complex mental health needs.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Proactive patient care via chart review, rounding, and patient interaction with psychiatric consult services
• Involvement in medication histories, reconciliation, and optimization upon admission as well as offering discharge counseling and coordination for transitions of care
• Monitoring medication-related adverse events and evaluating treatment outcomes
• Developing psychotropic stewardship initiatives to ensure safe and appropriate use
• Educational sessions for pharmacy staff, residents, and medical personnel
• Involvement in formulary considerations and quality improvement initiatives, including pharmacy driven research
• Participation in behavioral response team huddles and alerts

This role will also focus on developing learning experiences for pharmacy students and post-graduate pharmacy residents. Additionally, there will be reliance on this role to provide education to pharmacy staff and various multidisciplinary providers about various nuances of psychotropic medications, monitoring needs, and general treatment guidance to help support and enhance impact of psychotropic stewardship efforts. Although most consults will be for adult patients, there is the potential for pediatric or adolescents with the mixed patient population on the PRMC campus.

This is a full-time, 1.0 FTE position with every 4th weekend coverage covering adult internal medicine and no evenings. Parkview Regional Medical Center (PRMC), a member of Parkview Health, is a major regional medical center located in Fort Wayne.  It provides comprehensive medical services to patients in northeastern Indiana, northwestern Ohio, and southern Michigan.  PRMC is a tertiary medical center currently with 544 beds (all private) and is a Level II Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center.  In addition to the medical and surgical populations, it also has specialty centers for stroke, cardiology, orthopedics, and oncology.  The Women’s and Children’s Hospital sits on the PRMC campus and houses a 41-bed Level III NICU, a dedicated and comfortable family birthing center, and pediatrics care.

Parkview Pharmacy has provided advanced pharmacy services in a variety of areas for decades.  Parkview offers a progressive pharmaceutical care environment in a variety of practice settings. Inpatient services include extensive interdisciplinary rounding, graduate medical education engagement, and surgical/critical care and oncology satellite pharmacies.  We have also had tremendous growth in ambulatory pharmaceutical care including primary care, hospital-based clinics, specialty clinics, multiple retail pharmacies, and specialty pharmacy. Parkview Pharmacy leadership includes a team with dedication to each facility and service type, including Inpatient and Ambulatory Clinical Services, Distribution Services Managers for Parkview Regional Medical Center and Parkview Hospital, Oncology Manager, and Retail & Specialty Managers. Additionally, there are supervisors in each area to help support daily needs and department projects in conjunction with lead pharmacists and lead technicians. 

Parkview pharmacy is an early adopter of and a best-practice site for integrated technologies, including Epic©, Pyxis® MedStations™, Pyxis® CII Safe™, BD CatoTM, Parata ATPTM, Tecsys inventory management and vertical carousels, a centralized acute care pharmacy distribution center, smart intravenous infusion systems, and Baxa EM 2400™ TPN compounder.

Position Qualifications:

• Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited institution

• Pharmacy licensure or eligibility in Indiana
• Completion of a PGY1 pharmacy residency with a PGY2 in Psychiatry or equivalent psychiatric experience. Completion of Board Certification in Psychiatry Pharmacy or qualification to sit for certification within two years of hire is required.
• We are looking for candidates with a high level of clinical practice skills and enthusiasm for teaching with interpersonal skills that allow for effective interactions with students, health professionals, and patients. This candidate will need to be someone willing to work on developing this role with coordination and teamwork from multidisciplinary groups.
