Pep Band Director Classification Summary: Incumbents plan and direct the activities of an athletic band. Responsibilities may include planning and implementing practice sessions; recruiting student band members; purchasing equipment and supplies; coordinating practices and performances at athletic events; monitoring the academic progress of student band members; assisting with managing a budget; and promoting assigned programs.
This is a non-contractual position but is subject to annual renewal of appointment based on performance and departmental needs. Minimum Education and/or Training and Experience: Minimum of bachelors degree in a related field and one year of related athletic band experience.
Preferred Education and/or Training and Experience: Band director or teaching experience preferred.
Licensing Requirements: Classification Duties: - Instruct students, both athletes and non-athletes, on specific sporting/performance skills individually and/or on teams. This includes determining the most appropriate teaching method tailored to each students needs and providing comprehensive information on theory, technique, performance, and relevant aspects. Facilitate practice sessions, review audio/videos, evaluate performance, and engage in other related activities to enhance skill development and performance. (C4)
- Provide guidance and leadership to other coaching staff. (C4)
- Recruit and assess student talent across both athletic and music domains at Jefferson College. Evaluate academic credentials, performance, and personality to determine each students probability of success. Offer stipends/scholarships to qualified student-athletes and band members based on specified criteria. Facilitate the transfer process for student-athletes and band members wishing to continue their academic and extracurricular pursuits at 4-year colleges, recommending them to appropriate coaches and music programs. Emphasize securing athletic scholarships for athletes and music scholarships for band members to support their athletic and academic aspirations. (C4)
- Develop students, both academically and musically, by monitoring academic results and musical achievements. Work with Student Services to assure eligibility status and appropriate student academic progress. Specific attention should be given to encouraging the student toward completion of graduation requirements. (C4)
- Collaborate with the Director of Athletics and the Jefferson College Foundation Executive Director to coordinate all external/internal revenue generating initiatives/events to enhance the operating budget. In addition, monitor and abide by a fiscally responsible yearly department budget (C4)
- Coordinate and supervise performance and game/competition schedules and practices for both athletic teams and the college band, ensuring they align with their respective seasons timeframe. Supervise team and band activities, including attendance at home contests of various sports programs and campus/community events. Prepare musical and sporting equipment for practices and games, ensuring proper handling and maintenance at all times to facilitate optimal performance. (B2)
- Monitor student-athlete apartments, study halls, and/or academic performance; ensure student-athlete compliance with set behavioral and eligibility requirements. (B2)
- Professionally conduct him/herself and be a positive role model for the student-band/athletic members with whom they interact daily. (A1)
- Perform other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.
Position Duties: - Actively recruit throughout the year to build a competitive team roster primarily comprised of well-qualified student band members from the local high school community.
- Create and implement promotional, engagement, and entertainment activities to enhance fan experience at home games, thereby increasing attendance and raising the level of fan support from the college and local community.
- Perform at 14 double-header basketball games.

Utilizing communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers,
supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to
give and receive work direction;
Troubleshooting and solving complex program issues.
Wage/Salary: $10,700 annually
