Job Title: Orientation & Mobility Specialist

Location: Roseville CA

Job Summary:
ExpertHiring is seeking a qualified Orientation & Mobility Specialist to provide comprehensive services to students who are blind or visually impaired. The specialist will be responsible for assessing students needs developing individualized orientation and mobility plans and providing direct instruction to enhance their independence safety and navigation skills within school and community environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct thorough assessments of students’ orientation and mobility needs considering their visual impairment age cognitive abilities and other relevant factors.
• Develop and implement individualized orientation and mobility training programs tailored to each student’s abilities and goals.
• Provide direct instruction in skills such as cane use navigation of various environments street crossings public transportation use and other daily living skills.
• Collaborate with teachers special education staff and other related service providers to integrate orientation and mobility goals into the students educational plans.
• Monitor and document student progress adjust training strategies as needed and provide regular updates to parents and educational staff.
• Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings to contribute to the development of students educational goals and advocate for necessary resources.
• Educate school staff parents and peers on how to support the orientation and mobility needs of students with visual impairments.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records of assessments training sessions and progress reports.
• Stay current with best practices techniques and technology related to orientation and mobility training.
• Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations related to providing services for students with visual impairments.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility Special Education or a related field.
• Certification as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist from a recognized accrediting body (e.g. Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals).
• Previous experience working with children with visual impairments in an educational setting is preferred.
• Strong understanding of orientation and mobility techniques assistive technology and adaptive equipment for individuals with visual impairments.
• Excellent communication interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Commitment to fostering independence and enhancing the quality of life for students with visual impairments.

Working Conditions:

• Fulltime position with work conducted primarily onsite at the school
• Some travel may be required for communitybased instruction and training sessions.
