An employee in this classification, under the supervision of the Chief Customer Experience and Mobility Officer, or designee, oversees functional assessment process for individuals applying for use of the complimentary paratransit services. This employee prepares and maintains assessment reports, records, and training manuals, processes applications.

DUTIES:

  • Provides evaluation/assessment of a person’s eligibility for services.
  • Maintains a database with current and complete information on clients served and transportation services provided.
  • Works with Department Assistant to set up and complete in-person, phone and file assessments
  • Responsible for documentation and maintenance of customer files including records of contacts, file reviews, assessments, and outcomes.
  • Contacts medical staff and personnel for follow up on application and assessment. Maintains professional relationships with those personnel.
  • Provides instruction and/or consultation in a variety of areas including use of TARTA, TARPS and pedestrian safety, and community awareness.
  • Maintains records and documentation as required.
  • May act as a representative during requests for personalized transportation and presentations to community organizations.
  • Provides information related to public transit travel issues with parents and group homes.
  • Identifies, investigates, and resolves conflicts regarding No Show penalties.
  • Maintains knowledge of TARTA and TARPS system and other transportation systems.
  • May conduct meetings with current TARTA and TARPS riders.
  • Works with and maintains rapport and communication with other staff.
  • Provides feedback to immediate supervisor that could benefit or improve the program. May be required to orient individuals assigned to the department.
  • May participate in special transportation committee meetings.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

  • Basic office equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Position may involve exposure to individuals with medical and behavioral risks. May use the TARTA Fixed Route system throughout the city at various hours. Exposure to a variety of weather conditions.
  • Will walk varying distances with applicants as part of in-person assessments, possibly daily.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form. Knowledge of travel training practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of community transit system.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures involved in a variety of travel situations. Supervisory, training, evaluation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and perform basic mathematical computations. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships.
  • Understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Complies with all applicable laws and TARTA policies regarding confidential information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social services, education, rehabilitation, or related area. Or four years of equivalent work experience in these areas, in lieu of the degree.
  • One year experience working in areas of habilitation or habilitation services
  • Valid driver license
  • Standard First Aid/CPR
  • Requires own transportation.

Must be physically and functionally qualified to perform all duties assigned to this position with or without reasonable accomodation.
