What will you do in this job?:Major Activities (Typical Duties/Responsibilities): Provide excellent customer service to guests and other team members Make sound judgments and anticipate issues and opportunities Handle comments, complaints, and concerns with a high level of efficiency and in the best interest of the guest Greet arriving/departing guests in a professional and pleasant manner Coordinate with General Manager, the Port Mechanic, and the Land Facilities Maintenance Technician regarding the maintenance of island facilities While on the island be prepared to assist with employee and guest maintenance requests 24 hours a day Effectively supervise the maintenance staff Responsible for accurate timekeeping, scheduling, and managing the budget for the department Respond to or delegate maintenance requests in a timely manner, including daily usage and safety checks, and landscaping Practice and enforce the safe use and handling of all tools and equipment, following safety guidelines and precautions, writing procedures for all new tools Continually evaluate and initiate improvements to operations and safety procedures Responsible for ordering for the maintenance department and ensuring all needed equipment has been ordered and delivered to the island in a timely manner Track all inventory for propane systems, diesel, daily equipment used and turn invoices in to General Manager immediately for processing Keep GM informed all issues and how issues are being addressed Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot fresh water, propane, generation, and septic systems including the provision of samples and sampling data for analysis by the Alaska DEC and daily checks to assure adequate supply and safe operation Primarily responsible for the safety and incident management programs at the island. This specifically includes coordination and execution of frequent training, equipment maintenance and regular testing, hazard recognition and mitigation, and coordination with operations staff regarding safety issues Assist with the start-up and shut-down of facility in coordination with the General Manager and Marine Operations Assist in the safe embarkation and disembarkation of vessels from the dock Participate in emergency response activities including firefighting, emergency medical activities (within an employee’s training limitations), and other incidents Other duties as assigned What skills and experience do you need for this job?:Ability to work independently, in a team environment and with minimal supervision Ability to make decisions, solve problems and exercise good judgment; ability to work under pressure and prioritize workload Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to be empathetic with respect to guests’ and staffs’ needs and problems Ability to work closely with all levels of the Alaska Collection staff and management and the general public, including professionals and executives from a variety of companies Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions Working knowledge of maintenance and safety standards and requirements in the hotel industry Must be able to push, pull, carry and lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, and greater weights on an occasional basiC High School Diploma or GED required Training in general mechanical, boiler maintenance, plumbing, construction and electrical maintenance preferred 5 years experience on building maintenance 2 years supervisory experience; or any combination of training and experience that provides the necessary skills, knowledge and abilities Must be 21 years of age Must have a valid US Driver’s License with clean driving record What will your work environment be like?:Beautiful.
