What does an Internal Communications Specialist do?

  • Plans, writes and edits content with clear, compelling messaging, including social media posts, video scripts, website content, blog posts, team member profiles, letters, memos, email and more to be distributed across a variety of channels
  • Ideates creative concepts for internal communications content that aligns with organizational priorities and drives team member engagement
  • Ensures internal communications messaging is consistent and accurate across our organization
  • Clearly communicates complex ideas and initiatives in accessible messaging for diverse audiences and channels
  • Monitors and analyze the effectiveness of internal communication campaigns and tools
  • Clearly compiles and report data on the success of internal communications campaigns, messaging and tools
  • Works closely with the Communications team, People & Culture and leaders from various departments
  • Helps identify opportunities to leverage internal resources and collaborate with internal teams to generate content ideas
  • Develops a deep understanding of the organization’s history, vision and culture
  • Supports the development and execution of internal communications strategies
  • Assists with team member events as needed

  • Able to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity
  • Able to accept feedback and make necessary changes with minimal oversight
  • Basic graphic design (Canva) is a plus

To be successful as an Internal Communications Specialist, you'll need:

  • Minimum of 5-10 years experience in internal communications, corporate communications, copywriting or a related field
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, human resources, marketing, English or related field
  • Familiarity with team member engagement tools and platforms
  • Experience in working with a diverse team member population at large organizations preferred
  • Familiarity with AP style preferred
  • Ability to stand/walk for long periods of time and lift up to 10 pounds.
