South College invites applications for Adjunct Faculty positions in both General Biology and Microbiology at the South College Nashville Learning Site. For General Biology, this faculty member will lead courses that introduce the properties of life, scientific methods, cells, elementary genetics, evolutionary relationships, and biotechnology. Emphasis on living systems will include metabolism, physiology, and morphology. Exploration of the biological process, from the cellular to the organismal level, and organ systems is included. For courses that focus primarily on Microbiology, the content examines microorganisms with particular emphasis on their role in health, wellness, and disease. Economic, social, and cultural issues related to utilization, control, and research of the monera, protista, fungi, bacteria, and viruses are also considered. The adjunct faculty member is appointed on a quarter-by-quarter basis. Instruction will be delivered primarily during the weekday but occasional evening classes (ex: 5:30-9:45 pm), and/or Saturday morning classes may be required. Moreover, the course format may be online or on-ground depending on student need and preference.
Requirements:• A minimum of an acceptable master’s or doctoral degree in the discipline, or an earned master’s or doctoral degree and satisfactory completion of 18 graduate semester hours in the discipline . Official, sealed transcripts will be requested from both undergraduate and graduate institutions.
• Provide quality instruction in each assigned course within the approved academic program curriculum.
• Meet South College standards for classroom management, use of technology, grade submission, and records management.
• Prepare and implement teaching and evaluation strategies for engagement of students.
• Support student success through tutoring.
Preferences
Experience and documented excellence in postsecondary teaching.
