The mission of the Department of Corrections is to be a public safety resource for Arkansas families by providing professional management solutions and evidence-based rehabilitative initiatives for offenders.
All DOC positions are designated as Safety Sensitive Positions and are subject to random drug testing pursuant to the Secretarial Directive governing Personnel Drug Testing. Medical marijuana usage, as defined in Amendment 93 of the Arkansas Constitution, prohibits Personnel in a Safety-Sensitive Position from the use of medical marijuana even if they are qualifying patient under the amendment and/or hold a registry identification card. Department Personnel are prohibited from the use or possession of a medicinal marijuana card pursuant to this policy and state law.

Summary
The Arkansas Department of Correction (ADC) / Department of Community Corrections (DCC) Internal Affairs Investigator is responsible for investigating complaints and allegations filed in the Department of Correction. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Functions
Conducts investigations of allegations, complaints, and incidents of a serious nature made by the Department of Correction inmates and staff, which occur within the Department of Correction. Compiles facts, evidence, and documents collected from investigations. Assists the Department of Correction staff with preparing legal defense, affidavits, taking depositions, and forwarding information to the Attorney General's office and other agencies as required. Reviews lawsuits, allegations, and complaints, determines the methods and areas to investigate, and coordinates the investigation process with the department and involved staff. Maintains logs and files on complaints, allegations, and lawsuits filed against correctional officers to ensure expedient investigations and rapid retrieval of documentation. Assists in the search for escaped inmates by patrolling designated areas, monitoring two-way radio transmissions, and performing other related duties. Testifies in court to about investigative findings as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
Dimensions
Frequent in-state travel and exposure to an element of danger while interviewing inmates are required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing correctional institutions. Knowledge of correctional institution policies and procedures. Knowledge of investigation and interviewing techniques and methods. Ability to analyze information and compile reports. Ability to review files and determine appropriate course of action. Ability to maintain logs and files. Ability to patrol areas and monitor radio transmission to aid in the search of escaped inmates.
Minimum Qualifications
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in criminal justice or a related field; plus two years of experience in law enforcement, corrections, or a related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
