BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, Competitive Sports, manage the day-to-day functions of a diverse & inclusive, student-focused Club Sports program and support the development of recreational opportunities that serve the University of Rhode Island (URI) community.
Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
In the area of General Administration:
Administer and supervise the daily operations of a competitive student-focused Club Sports program.
Monitor and enforce established program rules, policies, procedures, and regulations.
Propose new or revised policies, guidelines, and operating procedures as necessary.
Evaluate all club sports programs and services to determine overall effectiveness and satisfaction and formulate recommendations based on results.
In collaboration with the Assistant Director and the Campus Recreation marketing team, develop marketing strategies and action plans for the promotion of club sports programs. Assist with maintaining and updating the Campus Recreation Intramural Sports and Club Sports websites as needed.
Assist with the development and implementation of fundraising initiatives and alumni engagement activities in cooperation with student leaders and the URI Foundation and Alumni Engagement (URIFAE).
Analyze engagement data, current industry trends, analytics, and research to drive and support decision-making and champion best practices.
Work effectively to promote and enhance diversity, assist in creating an environment of inclusion, and embrace social justice.
Serve as a campus resource for other programs to enhance the use and visibility of the Rec Center as a major campus resource.
Provide excellent customer service. Evaluate the effectiveness and satisfaction of overall programs and services.
Support Campus Recreation professional staff in work allocation, training, promotion, and enforcement of departmental internal policies, procedures, and data-based decision-making.
Work in collaboration with full-time recreation staff to effectively meet the department's mission, values, and goals to continue efforts that will enhance recreational opportunities for our students and university community and adapt to changes in the work environment.

In the area of Personnel Supervision, Student Development, and Training:
Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Club Sports Graduate Assistant(s) and a diverse team of club sports student employees.
In cooperation with the Assistant Director and student leaders, recruit and hire full-time, part-time, and volunteer club sport coaches, negotiate and develop coaching contracts, and evaluate performance.
Collect human resources paperwork from all new hires and submit to the appropriate university offices.
Formulate and revise employee training materials and operational manuals.
Serve as primary advisor to the Club Sports and Intramural Council (CSIC), and CSIC executive board.
Schedule and facilitate regular one-on-one meetings with student officers and coaches to advise and mentor club leadership.
In cooperation with the Assistant Director, develop and implement on-going training programs on required University policies and procedures including, but not limited to risk management, fundraising, fiscal management and sustainability, conflict management, human resource management, scheduling, travel coordination, marketing/branding, and social media.
Coordinate training programs with campus partners on subjects such as: bystander intervention, hazing prevention, alcohol education, Title IX, FERPA, Health Services Resources, CPR/AED, First Aid, etc.
Establish learning outcomes for participants and employees and conduct regular assessments.
Approve payroll and monitor student employee budgets.
In the area of Facility and Event Management:
Coordinate all aspects of club sports event management including scheduling and training of student employees and/or other personnel, equipment set-up, crowd management, etc.
Schedule per diem athletic trainers or other appropriate medical personnel for all club sports home events.
Develop club sports practice and competition schedules in cooperation with student leaders and the relevant facility manager.
Coordinate maintenance and upkeep of outdoor club sports facilities in cooperation with URI Facilities Services, URI Athletics, and outside vendors.
Assist with the operations, expansion, and maintenance upkeep for all current and future on- and off-campus Campus Recreation facilities and spaces including but not limited to the Arrigan Memorial Sailing Pavilion, the Rowing Center, Mackal Field House, Recreation Fields, Sand Volleyball Courts, and Keaney Gymnasium. Liaise with the outside management firm for the Bradford R. Boss Ice Arena.
Work in collaboration with the Coordinator of IM Sports, to ensure the maintenance of fields/courts, including field painting and submitting facility requests. Ensure proper enforcement of all policies and procedures, including all registration forms, waivers & releases, score sheets, participation records, facility access, etc.
In the area of Travel Management:
Develop and maintain partnerships with travel-related vendors such as travel agencies, bus companies, rental car agencies, hotels, etc. and liaise with them on behalf of club sport teams.
Develop and lead travel-related training programs for student leaders and coaches.
Review and approve all travel arrangements for all club sports teams.
Reconcile and record travel-related expenses.
In the area of Budget and Financial Management:
Assist the Assistant Director and Club Sports Fiscal Clerk with the development and management of the club sports budget.
Monitor team budgets on an ongoing basis.
Review and approve/deny all club sports expenditure requests.
Collect dues and other team revenue in cash, checks, credit cards and deposit to appropriate accounts.
Assist with reconciliation of team accounts at appropriate intervals.
Maintain accurate financial records according to established procedures.
In the area of Inventory/Equipment Management:
Be responsible for the procurement of club sports program equipment in cooperation with student leaders, coaches, and the Assistant Director.
Establish and maintain relationships with equipment and apparel/uniform vendors.
Ensure equipment is properly signed out and returned by established due dates.
Maintain inventory of all club sports equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
In cooperation with student leaders and club sport coaches ensure that all equipment is in safe working order and maintained appropriately.
Assist in the development of short- and long-range capital equipment plans to ensure club sport equipment needs are met using available resources.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with Intramural Sports activities as needed.
Participate in departmental and divisional meetings and initiatives.
Assist the Director and the Associate Director of Campus Recreation with special projects and/or directives for the Division of Student Affairs.
Work a flexible schedule including some evening and weekend hours.
Perform related duties as assigned.
LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers, printers and word processing, database management and spreadsheet software. Must have or be able to obtain within 30 days of employment and maintain current CPR, First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certifications. Must have or be able to obtain within 30 days of employment and maintain current SafeSport Certification.
Required Qualifications
REQUIRED:
1. Bachelor's degree in sports management, recreation administration, physical education, kinesiology/exercise science, business administration, college student personnel or a related field.
2. Minimum of two years of full-time professional administrative experience in developing and managing a club sports, intramural or similar recreational sport program (two years of graduate assistant experience is equivalent to one year of full-time experience).
3. Demonstrated supervisory experience.
4. Demonstrated training experience.
5. Demonstrated customer service experience.
6. Demonstrated ability to multi-task.
7. Demonstrated prioritization and organizational skills.
8. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
9. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
10. Willingness to work evenings and weekends.
11. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
12. Must have or be able to obtain within 30 days of employment and maintain current CPR, First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certifications.
13. Must have or be able to obtain within 30 days of employment and maintain current SafeSport Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED:
1. Master's degree in sports management, recreation administration, physical education, kinesiology/exercise science, business administration, college student personnel, Higher Education Administration, or a related field.
2. Minimum of two years of full-time professional administrative experience in developing and managing a club sports, intramural or similar recreational sport program in a college or university recreational setting with over 10,000 students; (two years of graduate assistant experience in the intramural sports program area is equivalent to one year of full-time experience).
3. Demonstrated familiarity with national governing bodies of various sports.
4. Demonstrated experience in financial management and fundraising skills.
5. Demonstrated experience working with CAS (Council for the Advancement of Standards - Collegiate Recreation) and/or student learning outcomes in a higher education setting.
6. Demonstrated experience working with software such as DSERec, SubItUp, Word Press, and PeopleSoft.
7. Demonstrated involvement in NIRSA - Leaders in Collegiate Recreation or in other professional organizations related to recreational sports.
