What You'll Do as a Controller:

  • Lead month-end and year-end closes, including reconciliations, WIP schedules, and financial statement preparation.
  • Perform intercompany reconciliations to ensure accuracy across all entities.
  • Direct general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions for all companies.
  • Review finance team outputs and uphold accuracy, consistency, and timeliness.
  • Prepare monthly job cost reports and provide financial insights to project managers.
  • Ensure accurate and timely inventory reporting for Zook Building Supplies.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and compliance with GAAP, tax laws, and audits.
  • Compile supporting schedules for banks, bonding, and insurance providers.
  • Coordinate weekly cash reporting, vendor setup, and compliance documentation.
  • Work full-time Monday-Friday, 40-45 hours per week, with flexible scheduling between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Our Ideal Controller:

  • Experienced: 3+ years in a mid- to senior-level finance or accounting role with a firm grasp of financial principles, reporting, and data analysis; holds a bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; an MBA or CPA, and a construction accounting background are preferred.
  • Leader: Demonstrates the ability to motivate and develop a team, hold others accountable, and foster a culture of ownership and excellence.
  • Process-minded: Implements systems and procedures that improve efficiency, scalability, and accuracy across multiple entities.
  • Analytical & Detail-oriented: Skilled at interpreting complex financial data and maintaining precision in every aspect of accounting.
  • Solution-driven: Proactively identifies issues, takes initiative, and develops effective, practical solutions.
  • Tech-savvy: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and accounting software.
