Position Description : The Division of Kinesiology and Sport Management (KSM) in the School of Education at The University of South Dakota invites applicants for a tenure track assistant or associate professor position or a non-tenure track assistant or associate professor of practice position in Exercise Science beginning in the fall semester of 2025. This is a nine-month position with the possibility of summer school teaching.
Responsibilities :
- Teaching: Provide quality instruction in undergraduate and graduate coursework (possible courses include exercise physiology, exercise test and prescription, kinesiology, applied physiology of exercise, laboratory techniques in exercise physiology, evaluation of research in KSM), including a variety of course delivery modalities (e.g., face-to-face, on-line, and other distance delivery systems); direct graduate research projects and theses.
- Research: Cultivate a specialized area of research that leads to nationally refereed publications and presentations. Actively engage in collaborative scholarly projects with faculty and students. Pursue external grants to enhance KSM funding for research.
- Service: Attend and participate in faculty meetings and activities at the University, School, and Division levels. Serve on Division, School, and/or University committees, and contribute to professional organizations at the state, national, or international levels.
- Other assignments may be made based on the professional and academic background of the faculty to complement the strengths of the Division faculty as well as to address the diverse needs of students in programs within the Division of Kinesiology and Sport Management, School of Education, and university community.
Required Qualifications :
- Candidates are required to have a doctoral degree in Exercise Science or a related field. ABD will be considered, but the doctorate must be completed by August 21, 2025.
- Candidates should demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching or potential for outstanding teaching at the collegiate/university level.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience and/or ability to teach courses such as exercise physiology, advanced exercise physiology, kinesiology, exercise test and prescription, laboratory techniques in exercise physiology, and evaluation of research in KSM.
- Current ACSM or NSCA certification is also preferred.

The Division and School : The Division of Kinesiology and Sport Management (KSM) ( is one of four divisions in the School of Education ( and offers baccalaureate and master's degree programs in Exercise Science and Sport Management. The KSM Division currently has 5 full-time faculty; administrative staff; 4 funded graduate assistants; over 250 undergraduate majors; and approximately 30 graduate majors. The division is housed in the Sanford Coyote Sports Center, a $73 million state-of-the-art facility that opened in 2016.
The University of South Dakota is a comprehensive liberal arts-based state institution with an enrollment of approximately 10,000 students. Basic and professional programs are available in the School of Education, Beacom School of Business, School of Law, Sanford School of Medicine, College of Fine Arts, and the College of Arts and Sciences.
